What is an EdgeReady Plugin?

The EdgeReady Plugin is a software component of the EdgeReady platform that provides the integration between SAP systems and the EdgeReady platform. It is a recommended component required to operate Apps with your SAP applications.

The EdgeReady platform can be integrated to a customer’s On-premise business application through the On-Premise EdgeReady Plugin. In this deployment variant, the EdgeReady Plugin is installed inside the customer’s firewall.

The EdgeReady Plugin connects to the source applications using various adapters and at the same time, provides secure connectivity to the EdgeReady platform which in turn provides secure connectivity to EdgeReady Apps in the devices.

Technical Architecture

The below diagram depicts a typical deployment with the EdgeReady Plugin installed inside the customer’s firewall. The EdgeReady plugin connects to the SAP ECC or S/4HANA using the SAP adapter and at the same time, provides secure connectivity to the EdgeReady platform, which in turn provides secure connection to EdgeReady Apps on the devices. All the communications are secure and encrypted (HTTPS with 256-bit encryption).

Access to the EdgeReady Plugin can be further secured by White listing the EdgeReady IP addresses so that no other application can communicate directly with the EdgeReady Plugin. Alternatively, the request from the EdgeReady platform can be sent to a Reverse Proxy/Web Dispatcher and then redirected to the EdgeReady Plugin to add another layer of security.
